Everpure Insurice i4000 Systems: The Complete Guide for Commercial Ice Machines

Choosing ice machine filtration for a Saudi hotel, hospital or venue? How the Everpure Insurice i4000 Triple and Quad compare, why Saudi water scales faster, and when to change cartridges.

Everpure Insurice i4000 triple cartridge system with pressure gauge

A large ice machine in a Saudi hotel, hospital kitchen or stadium concourse can run almost without a break from May to September, and the water feeding it decides how long it keeps doing so. Hard or mineral-heavy water leaves scale on the evaporator, chlorine and sediment spoil the taste of the ice, and a struggling machine fails at exactly the time demand peaks. The Everpure Insurice i4000 is Pentair's filtration system for these high-output machines: three or four large cartridges on one manifold, combining fine filtration with a built-in scale inhibitor. This guide sets out the specifications, how to choose between the Triple, the Quad and the smaller i2000, and how Sovereign Water designs, fits and services Insurice systems for Saudi sites.

TL;DR

  • The i4000 Triple handles 36,000 gallons at 5.0 GPM; the Quad handles 48,000 gallons at 6.7 GPM. Each cartridge is rated to 12,000 gallons.
  • Pentair rates the media at 0.2 microns, filtering dirt and sediment down to 0.5 microns, with certification to NSF/ANSI 42 and 53.
  • A polyphosphate scale inhibitor in each cartridge helps keep calcium and magnesium from settling on ice machine surfaces. It does not soften the water.
  • Saudi supply varies by city and building, from coastal desalinated water to inland blends and tank-stored water. Very hard or high-TDS sites may need treatment ahead of the Insurice system.
  • Sovereign Water surveys, specifies, installs and services Insurice systems across the Kingdom under Comprehensive Maintenance.

Where the i4000 Fits in a Saudi Ice Operation

The Insurice range is built for ice machines specifically, not for general drinking water lines. A plain taste-and-odour filter deals with chlorine and particles; an Insurice cartridge does that and also doses a scale inhibitor to protect the evaporator, the water distribution tube and the harvest parts. The i4000 is the top of that range, designed for machines where a smaller system would be exhausted too quickly.

In the Kingdom, that usually means operations such as:

  • Large hotels, including those serving pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah, where banqueting and room service ice demand runs day and night through the peak seasons
  • Hospitals and medical cities with central kitchens and multiple ward pantries
  • Stadiums, arenas and event venues in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam during major fixtures and festivals
  • Contract caterers feeding remote industrial and energy sites, and large camp kitchens on new development projects
  • Food production plants and central kitchens supplying restaurant groups

The i4000 Triple is sized for cubers producing 1,200 to 1,500 lbs of ice per day and flakers producing 1,000 to 1,300 lbs per day. The Quad is for bigger machines. Smaller units are better matched to the Insurice i2000, which we cover below.

Triple or Quad: The Numbers That Matter

Both versions mount i4000 cartridges on a single manifold. The choice comes down to how much water the machine draws and how fast.

Other points that apply to both:

  • Micron rating: 0.2 microns, filtering dirt and sediment as small as 0.5 microns
  • Scale control: inhibitor contained in every cartridge
  • Manifold fittings: water shut-off valve, flushing valve and pressure gauge
  • Certification: NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and Standard 53

Pentair lists the Insurice Triple i4000 at 36,000 gallons and 5 GPM and the Quad at 48,000 gallons and 6.7 GPM, with a 0.2-micron rating and NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 certification. (Pentair Everpure, Insurice i4000 Systems)

Ice machine makers publish their own filtration recommendations, so we always check the machine's model and output against Everpure's matching before confirming Triple or Quad.

Reading the NSF 42 and 53 listings properly

NSF/ANSI 42 covers aesthetic performance, such as reducing chlorine taste and odour and particulates. NSF/ANSI 53 covers specific health-related contaminant reduction claims, which for this system include cyst reduction. For a Saudi food business, the certificates are useful supporting documents in a HACCP file and during food-safety inspections. They describe what the filter was tested to do. They do not replace your own hygiene controls, cleaning schedules or ice machine sanitisation.

Inside the Cartridge: How Micro-Pure II Works

Micro-Pure II is the filter media Everpure uses in Insurice cartridges. It traps very fine particles that a common 5-micron sediment filter lets through. Those particles are too small to see, but over months they build up on evaporator plates and in distribution nozzles, where they feed scale deposits and give biofilm a surface to grow on.

What "bacteriostatic" does and does not mean

Everpure describes the i2000 and i4000 cartridges as bacteriostatic: the media limits the growth or passage of bacteria that may already be in the incoming water, so the cartridge itself is less likely to become a breeding ground while in service. Pentair's own manual is clear that this does not mean the water leaving the system is safer to drink than the water going in. In practice, it is one more reason to change cartridges on time. A cartridge left in service long after its rated capacity, in a hot plant room in a Saudi summer, is the scenario to avoid.

The effect on ice and drinks

Ice is an ingredient. Chlorine taste or a stale note from tank-stored water carries straight into iced coffee, juices, mocktails and the water jugs on banquet tables. Reducing chlorine taste and odour, and removing fine sediment, gives clearer cubes that taste of nothing, which is what a hotel or restaurant wants. This matters more as the Kingdom's café and hospitality scene grows and guests notice the difference.

Why Saudi Ice Machines Scale Up Faster

Saudi Arabia is the world's largest producer of desalinated water, according to the Saudi Water Authority, with plants on both coasts. Desalinated water on its own is low in minerals, but what reaches a kitchen is rarely that simple. Inland, supply may be blended with groundwater, which tends to be harder and higher in total dissolved solids (TDS). In older districts and on some sites, buildings top up from tankers. Most commercial buildings also store water in a ground tank and often a rooftop tank before it reaches the plant room.

Add heat to that picture. Ice machines in Saudi kitchens and service corridors work against high room temperatures for much of the year, run longer cycles and turn over more water. More water through the machine means more minerals left behind, so scale builds faster than in cooler, softer-water markets.

How the scale inhibitor works

Each i4000 cartridge releases a small, controlled dose of food-grade polyphosphate. This holds calcium and magnesium in solution so they are less likely to settle on metal surfaces as scale. It does not take the hardness out of the water. On sites where hardness or TDS is very high, the inhibitor is used up faster and may not be enough on its own, which is why every project starts with a chargeable site survey.

What scale costs you before anything breaks

Scale rarely causes a sudden failure. First, harvest cycles get longer. Then daily output drops and the machine draws more power for less ice. Eventually, a compressor or evaporator fails, usually in July when a replacement is hardest to source quickly. Planned cartridge changes under our Comprehensive Maintenance programme are a predictable, budgeted cost by comparison, and help keep the machine producing at its rated output when you need it most.

i2000 or i4000: Picking the Right Size

Both systems belong to the Insurice family; the difference is cartridge size. The i4000 uses Everpure's larger "X-size" cartridge, rated to 12,000 gallons each. The i2000 uses the traditional "7-size" cartridge with a lower capacity. On a high-output machine, the bigger cartridge means fewer changes a year and a lower filtration cost for each gallon treated.

The i2000 is matched to smaller ice machines. If your machine's daily output sits above what the i2000 is rated for, the i4000 is the right choice. Running an undersized system on a big machine burns through cartridges and leaves gaps in protection between visits, which is a real risk where water is hard.

Signs you have outgrown an i2000

  • You have replaced the ice machine with a higher-output model
  • Cartridges hit their rated capacity well before the planned change date
  • Your supply is very hard or high in TDS, which uses up the scale inhibitor sooner
  • Ice demand has grown, for example after adding banqueting space, a new outlet or a larger staff canteen

If any of these apply, we can review your current set-up at a chargeable site survey and tell you whether moving to the i4000 is justified. Talk to our team.

Fitting, Changeover and Change Intervals

An i4000 manifold should be installed by a trained water treatment technician. Getting it right involves checking inlet pressure, adding pre-filtration where the water needs it, positioning the manifold so cartridges can be changed easily, and running the flushing line to a suitable drain.

Changing cartridges

Insurice cartridges use a sanitary quick-change design: they are swapped without tools and nobody touches the filter media. The water is isolated with the shut-off valve, the old cartridges come off, the new ones go on, and the system is flushed through the flushing valve to clear air and fine carbon before going back into service. Pentair's manual calls for a five-minute flush at full flow on new cartridges. Done by a trained technician, the full changeover, including the flush and a pressure check, takes under 30 minutes. Under our Comprehensive Maintenance service contracts, our technicians do this so your kitchen team does not have to.

When to change

Pentair's guidance is to replace cartridges when rated capacity is reached or when flow becomes inadequate, and at least once a year, changing every cartridge on a multi-cartridge system together. The pressure gauge on the manifold helps show when flow is dropping. On hard or high-TDS Saudi supply, changes may be needed sooner than the gallon rating suggests. We track usage and service history for each site so cartridges are changed when protection is running low, not simply on a calendar date.

Specification Checklist for Saudi Projects

Before ordering an Insurice system, gather:

  • Ice machine make, model and rated daily output (cuber or flaker)
  • Number of machines and whether any share a supply line
  • Any water quality reports the landlord or FM provider already holds
  • How the building stores water: ground tank, rooftop tank, tanker top-up
  • Inlet pressure at the machine location
  • Wall space for the manifold, clearance for cartridge changes and a drain for flushing
  • Peak periods, such as summer, Ramadan evenings, Hajj and Umrah seasons or event days
  • Who on site is responsible for logging the pressure gauge between visits

How Sovereign Water Supports Insurice in the Kingdom

Sovereign Water is an authorised Everpure distributor, supplying, fitting and servicing Insurice systems for hotels, hospitals, caterers, food producers and facilities management companies in Saudi Arabia and across the GCC. Buying through an authorised channel means a supported installation, genuine Everpure cartridges for the life of the system and access to the manufacturer's warranty process.

Every project starts with a chargeable site survey. We look at how the site is supplied and how water is stored, confirm the ice machine's model and output, measure inlet pressure and decide whether pre-treatment such as a softener or reverse osmosis is needed ahead of the Insurice system. In a market where one building runs on coastal desalinated supply and the next relies on blended or tanker water, that survey is what stops an undersized or mismatched system being fitted.

Planned servicing for single and multi-site operators

After installation, our Comprehensive Maintenance programme covers scheduled cartridge changes, system checks and access to our technical team throughout the contract. For hotel groups and caterers with sites in several cities, or operators with machines running around the clock, planned servicing is far more reliable than waiting for a drop in ice output. We know what ice machine downtime means in a banqueting kitchen, a hospital pantry or a stadium kiosk, and we plan visits around your peak periods.

Ice Machine Filtration Questions From Saudi Operators

How much water does an i4000 Triple treat before a change?

36,000 gallons in total, from three cartridges rated at 12,000 gallons each, at a service flow rate of 5.0 GPM. Change sooner if flow drops or a year has passed, whichever comes first.

Do I need the Triple or the Quad?

The Triple suits cubers of 1,200 to 1,500 lbs/day and flakers of 1,000 to 1,300 lbs/day. Larger machines move to the Quad, rated at 48,000 gallons and 6.7 GPM. We confirm against your machine's model before ordering.

Will the i4000 cope with hard, high-TDS water in Riyadh or the Eastern Province?

The built-in polyphosphate inhibitor helps prevent scale, but it does not remove hardness. Where the supply is very hard or high in TDS, we may recommend a softener or reverse osmosis ahead of the system to protect both the cartridges and the machine.

What does the NSF certification cover?

NSF/ANSI 42 covers aesthetic effects such as chlorine taste and odour. NSF/ANSI 53 covers specific health-related reduction claims, including cysts. The certificates support your HACCP records but do not replace your own hygiene procedures.

Should our kitchen staff change the cartridges themselves?

They can be trained to, but most operators prefer us to handle it under Comprehensive Maintenance, so changes are logged, every cartridge is replaced together and the flush is done properly.

Can Sovereign Water install the i4000 outside Riyadh?

Yes. We supply, install and maintain the Insurice range across Saudi Arabia, with service plans set around local water conditions and your operating pattern.
